1. Information We Collect
When you use Besabus, we collect the following information:
Account Information
Your name and email address when you create an account.
Location Data
Your precise geolocation (GPS coordinates, speed, and heading) when you choose to share it through the App. This includes both foreground location (when the app is open) and background location (when the app is minimized or the screen is locked), depending on your user role and the features you use.
Messages
Communications exchanged between bus drivers and passengers through the in-app messaging feature.
2. How We Use Your Location
Location sharing is a core feature of Besabus and is used in the following ways:
Bus Drivers (Background Location)
What we collect: When a driver taps "Start" to begin tracking a trip, we collect precise GPS coordinates, speed, and heading.
Background location access: The app continues to collect location data even when the app is running in the background, minimized, or when the screen is locked. This is essential so that passengers can see real-time bus positions continuously during the entire trip, even if the driver needs to use other apps (phone calls, navigation, messages) while driving.
When it stops: Background location tracking stops immediately when the driver taps "Stop" to end the trip. Location is never collected outside of active tracking sessions.
User control: Drivers can stop tracking at any time by tapping "Stop" in the app. They can also revoke background location permission at any time through their device settings.
Resellers
Resellers can choose to share their location continuously (via preferences) or set a fixed address. This location is used to help passengers find nearby ticket resellers.
Passengers (Foreground Location Only)
When a passenger taps "Hey I'm here", their location is shared with the bus driver to facilitate pickup. Passengers only use foreground location (while the app is open and in use). We do not collect background location from passengers.
Your Control: You have full control over when your location is shared. Location is only transmitted when you actively choose to share it through the App's features. You can disable location permissions at any time in your device settings.
3. How We Share Your Information
Your information is shared in the following circumstances:
With Other Users
Your location is shared with relevant users (drivers or passengers) when you use location-sharing features. For bus drivers, real-time location is visible to passengers searching for buses on the driver's route. Your name may be visible to users you interact with.
In-App Messaging
Messages you send are transmitted to the recipient (driver or passenger). Please note that these messages are not end-to-end encrypted.
Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your location data with advertisers or data brokers.
4. Data Storage and Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your personal information. However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
Location Data Retention
Real-time location data is transmitted to passengers and is not permanently stored on our servers after the tracking session ends. Aggregated trip data (such as distance traveled) may be retained for service improvement and reward calculations.
Messages
In-app messages between users are not end-to-end encrypted. Please avoid sharing sensitive personal information through the messaging feature.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent for location sharing at any time by disabling location features in the App or in your device settings
- Revoke background location permission specifically while keeping foreground location enabled (for drivers)
6. Children's Privacy
Besabus is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
